It has virtually transformed the process of product design, analysis, and manufacture. Industries are finding that the new manufacturing technology demands well-trained personnel. Education is now being viewed as a continuous and long-term investment.

The third edition of Introduction to Computer Numerical Control (CNC) has been expanded and improved. The blueprint reading material has been separated as follows: Chapter 5—Review of Basic Blueprint Reading for CNC Programmers and Chapter 6—Review of Basic Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing for CNC Programmers.

Chapter 18 now includes a presentation on creating and simulating a complete part program using Mastercam CNC software. The third edition introduces the use of CNC software for writing, verifying, and simulating the milling word address programs in this text. To this end, a new Chapter 20, titled Verifying Part Programs, has been added. Included with this edition is a bound CD-ROM disk containing powerful, industrial quality CNC verification and simulation software.

The software displays real-time solid model animation of the machining that results from a part program. Additionally, it has an inspection mode that enables students to section as well as verify the dimensions of the machined part.

The milling part programs in the text have been edited so they will work properly with the verification and simulation software.

They include a list of important safety precautions; summaries of G and M codes for milling and turning operations; recommended speeds and feeds for different materials with respect to drilling, milling, and turning operations; and important and easy-to-use machining formulas.
• A comprehensive glossary of key CNC terms is provided at the end of the book.
• Verification and simulation software enables students to visualize the effects of a written part program.

At this point, some readers may get bogged down in respectable yet monotonous he-said-she-said, while others may feel the copious direct quotes from primary sources are just right. Writing with an unabashed political bent, Aronson draws intrepid parallels between Salem and post-September 11th society (as well as the 1960s), and alternately charming and shocking connections between the 400-year-old participants and classic folk- and fairy-tale characters. In the charge to form one's own deduction about what happened and why, this bold book cautions that while readers' interpretations will vary and are valid, conclusions may not even be possible.

In this study of migration music in postsocialist Albania, Eckehard Pistrick identifies links between sound, space, emotionality and mobility in performance, provides new insights into the controversial relationship between sound and migration, and sheds light on the cultural effects of migration processes. Central to Pistrick’s approach is the essential role of emotionality for musical creativity which is highlighted throughout the volume: pain and longing are discussed not as a traumatising end point, but as a driving force for human action and as a source for cultural creativity. In addition, the study provides a fascinating overview about the current state of a rarely documented vocal tradition in Europe that is a part of the mosaic of Mediterranean singing traditions. It refers to the challenges imposed onto this practice by heritage politics, the dynamics of retraditionalisation and musical globalisation. In this sense the book constitutes an important study to the dynamics of postsocialism as seen from a musicological perspective.

Eckehard Pistrick is a post-doctoral researcher and lecturer in ethnomusicology at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Germany with a focus on Southeast Europe. He is an associate member of the Centre de Recherche en Ethnomusicologie (CREM), Paris and has, since 2004, conducted extensive fieldwork in Albania as well as in Greece, Bulgaria and Kosovo.
